IT offers self-paced computer learning resources

4:44 p.m., Oct. 2, 2007--UD's Information Technologies (IT) learning resources program offers training materials for a range of computing topics. This is the second article in a series about these resources and focuses on self-paced training materials available for use by students, faculty and staff. Self-paced materials are an excellent option for those are unable to attend a scheduled class, prefer working at home or enjoy learning on their own.

To search the self-paced materials database, go to [www.present.udel.edu/training]. For a quick overview of the more than 160 available titles, click the link in the lefthand column of the window. Or, if to quickly find a specific topic, use the search feature to look for a subject by category, software title, format, audience or keyword.

Categories include MS Office applications; web authoring and graphics; data, statistics and GIS; e-mail and administrative systems; and multimedia. All materials are available to the campus community and can be picked up at 116 Pearson Hall. To check availability and reserve a title, call (302) 831-6338. A valid UD ID is required for checkout.

A few of the available titles are listed below.

Dreamweaver MX 2004 (CD-ROM)--Provides an introduction to the Dreamweaver interface, how to set up your work area, format text, create document properties, save files for the web, create and link images, use templates, understand cascading style sheets, layers, forms and how to publish your work.

Photoshop CS3 for Beginners (DVD)--This beginner-level tutorial walks you through a full range of Photoshop functions, tools and techniques to start you on your way to working like a professional. The material covered includes key concepts, step-by-step instruction on using layers, tips about retouching digital images and techniques for saving and outputting your work.

Mastering Color (DVD)--These instructions include more than two hours of training on color theory and different ways to adjust, change and improve image color. Topics include how to use hue and saturation to adjust colors, replace colors and remove shadows from faces as well as a collection of power tips to move your skills to the next level.

Mac OS X (CD-ROM)--This series of four CDs covers a wide range of topics, including pre-installation, registration and setup, the Apple menu, the application and help menus, the dock, window modes, preference settings, directory structure, organizing files, aliases, fonts, the preview application and how to back up files and directories.
