Daniel Leathers, professor of geography, was quoted in an Oct. 19 News Journal story about dry weather in Delaware, which he said may continue. "If you had to make a bet, you would have to bet that the coming spring, from late winter to spring under a La Ni–a event, is likely to be a little drier than a normal year," he said.

Muqtedar Khan, associate professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in an Oct. 19 Associated Press story about concerns in a small Maryland community about plans to construct a mosque.

Roberta Michnick Golinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Chair in Human Services, Education and Public Policy, was quoted in an Oct. 18 Associated Press story about how to read scary Halloween books to children.

Patrick Harker, UD president, was quoted in an Oct. 18 News Journal story about plans for the Fightin' Blue Hens football team to play Delaware State University. Also, Harker was featured in a profile in the Oct. 14 Delaware State News.

Harsh Bais, assistant professor of plant and soil science, was featured in stories Oct. 17 in Live Science and Oct. 18 in the News Journal concerning research on the invasive marsh plant Phragmites australis that uses a toxic acid to destroy neighboring plants. The Oct. 18 Christian Science Monitor included the research in science briefs, and it also was included in Oct. 13 United Press International science briefs.

David Wilson, assistant professor of political science and international relations, and James R. Soles, Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Political Science and International Relations, were quoted in Oct. 16 News Journal stories about state political polls.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an Oct. 15 Dow Jones Newswires story about an increase in the Nasdaq. “It is now considered an established market,” he said. “Given the size and the prestige of the companies trading in it, I think people are very happy with it.” Elson also was quoted in an Oct. 13 Cox News Service story about Beazer Homes of Atlanta, a mortgage lender.

Marsha Dickson, chairperson of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies, was featured Oct. 15 on CN8's Art Fennell Reports. She discussed UD's new graduate certificate in socially responsible apparel business.

Judith Hough-Goldstein, professor of entomology and wildlife ecology, was quoted in an Oct. 15 Capital News Service story about the use of insects to control mile-a-minute weed.

Laurence Seidman, Chaplin Tyler Professor of Economics, was quoted in an Oct. 14 News Journal story about the Oct. 20, 1987, stock market crash known as “Black Monday.”

Willett Kempton and Jeremy Firestone, associate professors of marine and earth studies, wrote an Oct. 14 News Journal perspective piece on wind energy.
