Manuel Torres, a graduate research assistant at UD's Disaster Research Center, was quoted in an Oct. 26 Sacramento Bee story about the California wildfires.

Joel Best, professor of sociology, was cited in an Oct. 26 Fredericksburg (Va.) Free Lance-Star story about Halloween urban legends.

Tatiana Ausema, a UD graduate with bachelor's and master's degrees in art conservation and now assistant collection manager of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, was featured in an Oct. 25 Wall Street Journal story about the preservation of works by artist Morris Louis.

Kimmie Meissner, UD freshman and reigning national figure skating champion, was featured in the Oct. 24 Baltimore Sun, in an Associated Press story and in the Oct. 21 Reading (Pa.) Eagle. Meissner is in Reading to compete in this weekend's Skate America competition.

Tricia Wachtendorf, assistant professor of sociology and core faculty with UD's Disaster Research Center, was interviewed Oct. 24 on National Public Radio's Talk of the Nation program regarding the California wildfires, evacuation and loss of personal property in disasters.

Edward C. Ratledge, director of UD's Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, was cited in an Oct. 24 News Journal story about population trends in the state.

Patrick Harker, UD president, was cited in an Oct. 23 News Journal story about Gov. Ruth Ann Minner's trip to Chile. Harker accompanied the state delegation, signing an agreement between UD and the Universidad Mayor Campus Huerchuraba designed to promote future collaborations between the two institutions. He then flew on to China to meet with officials at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Beijing Normal University, and to visit the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in Chengdu. In August, UD and SWUFE signed a cooperative agreement that calls for the establishment of study abroad programs and student/faculty exchange initiatives between the two institutions.

Corey Whaley, an agent with UD's Cooperative Extension Service, was quoted in an Oct. 23 News Journal story about drought and the threat of fire in the region. "The dry weather this fall definitely could impact the first cutting of hay next spring," Whaley said. "And I've been seeing trees stressed almost all summer, turning yellow and losing leaves early."

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an Oct. 22 Wall Street Journal story about boards of directors and decisions to fire, or keep, chief executive officers.

Judith Cizek, University Museums curator, was quoted in an Oct. 22 News Journal story about the exhibitions “Bill Brandt: Shadow of Light” and “Recent Gifts of Photography to University Museums.”

Susan Strasser, professor of history, was quoted in an Oct. 21 Agence France-Presse story about housework, specifically laundry and whether modern appliances have provided time savings. “It used to be that people let their clothes get really dirty before they washed them,” she said. “Now, we use a towel once and we throw it in the wash.”

Gordon Johnson, an agent with UD's Cooperative Extension Service, was quoted in an Oct. 21 News Journal story about agricultural tourism.

Gerald Cloud, a UD alumnus who earned a doctorate in English in 2005, was featured in the Oct. 19 Columbia Spectator in a story about his work with that university's Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

Marianne Carter, director of the Delaware Center for Health Promotion headquartered in UD's Carpenter Sports Building, was featured on the Comcast Newsmakers program Oct. 10-23 as she discussed “Be Healthy Delaware: Get Moving.” Also, Carter was quoted in an Oct. 9 News Journal story about college students avoiding the "freshman 15.”

David Stone, associate professor of art history, was featured in the Oct. 14 Malta Independent as one of four featured speakers at a symposium on the artist Caravaggio.
