Horn faculty recital, Delaware Horn Day set Oct. 6
John David Smith
4:30 p.m., Oct. 4, 2007--John David Smith, assistant professor of music at UD, will perform solo and chamber works for the horn at a faculty recital set for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, in Gore Recital Hall of the Louise and David Roselle Center for the Arts. Joining Smith will be Julie Nishimura, a UD music accompanist-coach, and Julie Landsman, principle horn of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, as well as several UD Music faculty members. Tickets for the recital are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and alumni and $3 for students.

Before the concert, Smith and the UD Horn Studio will host Delaware Horn Day, an opportunity for student and professional horn players and those with a love for the orchestral horn and other brass instruments to learn, listen and play. The event will be held in the Roselle Center for Fine Arts and the Amy E. du Pont music Building.

The free workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature Landsman, a graduate and current faculty member at the Julliard School who was the first full-time female brass player at the Met and is the longest-serving female principal player in a major American orchestra. Landsman will give an afternoon master class with several UD horn students.

Other activities include a college audition preparation seminar with Smith, large horn ensemble readings and much more.
