Both Moeckels have served on the UD Parent Board, the Alumni Association Board and the Friends of Delaware Lacrosse.
Thorpe (AS '79) also served as president of the UD Alumni Association and is a member of the Trustees' Visiting Committee on Athletics and a volunteer speaker for UD civil engineering.
Peggy (Margaret Carpenter Moeckel, AS '76) is a real estate agent associated with Patterson Schwartz and chaired parent committees for capital and annual campaigns for the Tatnall School. She also has chaired Delaware high school all-star lacrosse games.
Thorpe retired as managing partner of Moeckel Carbonnell Associates, an architectural firm, last February. He is a senior consultant to Blakney Hayes Architects.
He has been active in the community and served as director of the Committee of 100, the Wilmington Rotary Club and the Delaware College of Art and Design, president of the board of trustees of the Tatnall School and chairman of the State of Delaware Governor's Advisory Panel on Intergovernmental Planning and Coordination. He also served as treasurer of the Delaware Humanities Forum.
Peggy and Thorpe's son, Alexander, is a student in hotel, restaurant and institutional management at UD, and their daughter, Emily, is a 2005 graduate of Vassar College, now living in Oregon.
