Franklin Kelly, an alumnus who received a doctorate in art history from UD in 1984, was featured in a May 2 Washington Post story upon being named deputy director and chief curator at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Kelly received a UD Presidential Citation for Outstanding Achievement in 2001.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an April 28 Wall Street Journal story about efforts to provide shareholders a say on executive salaries. Elson said he believes the key to controlling excessive pay lies in holding directors accountable. “If you don't like the pay package, your objection is not with the package but with the people who put the package in place,” he said. “If they're not effective on pay, they're probably not effective on other things.”

Elson also was quoted in an April 26 Sacramento Bee story on SureWest shareholders and an April 24 Richmond Times-Dispatch story on the rise in shareholder activism.

James Corbett, associate professor of marine and earth studies, was cited in an April 26 story in The New York Times concerning pollution in the shipping industry.

Sharon Merriman-Nai, project director with the National Center on Elder Abuse in UD's Center for Community Research and Service, was quoted in an April 26 Albany Times-Union story about elder abuse.

Xinqiao Jia, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, and Randall Duncan, associate professor of biological sciences and engineering, were featured in an April 24 segment on CNN for her work in tissue engineering in vocal cords.

Johnie Burton, director of financial aid, was cited in an April 24 Chronicle of Higher Education story about drops in enrollment of needy students as determined through an analysis of federal Pell Grant data.

The Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies was cited for its graduate certificate in socially responsible and sustainable apparel business in the April 21 issue of Women's Wear Daily.
