Student winners solo in concert Wednesday

4:39 p.m., May 19, 2008--The final UD Symphony Orchestra concert of the 2008 spring semester will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, in the Puglisi Orchestra Hall of the Louise and David Roselle Center for the Arts. The “Seeing Student Stars Shine” concert will feature the four concerto and aria winners of 2008.

The orchestra will perform pieces highlighting each concerto and aria winner, including Wolfgang Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, featuring junior Victoria Clark on bassoon; Ferdinand David's Concertino for Trombone and Orchestra, featuring junior Timothy Plimpton on trombone; Ney Rosauro's Vibraphone Concerto, featuring senior Stephen Tipping on vibraphone; and arias from Giacomo Puccini's La Boheme, Georges Bizet's Carmen and Carlisle Floyd's Susannah, featuring senior Kathryn Ayash, soprano.

The performance will open with one of Antonin Dvorak's Slavonic Dances, conducted by Christina Vonduyke, a master's degree candidate at UD. To conclude the concert, the orchestra will perform the 1955 Hollywood film version of the opening title medley to Oklahoma!, conducted by Brian Stone, assistant professor of music.
