Ellison, a native of Bethany Beach, Del., led the Blue Hens this season with a 74.85 stroke average, the fifth lowest average in UD history. He finished in 15th place at the 2008 Colonial Athletic Association championships, the second highest finish by a Blue Hen in the seven years UD has been in the conference.
Ellison was Delaware's top finisher at the Elon, Old Dominion and Lafayette invitational events, taking second at Lafayette. He will enter his senior season with a 75.38 career stroke average, the second lowest in school history.
“Tommy has played an important role in the golf team's success over the last three years,” Keogh said. “He has emerged as a true leader and is positioned to assume the duties of captain for the 2008-09 campaign.”
Keogh also announced that Steve Boerner has earned the team's Grinder Award for desire, determination and commitment to his game. Boerner, a native of Bethlehem, Pa., averaged 80.09 strokes per round in 11.5 rounds during the 2007-08 season. He finished 43rd at the Lafayette Invitational after shooting two rounds of 78, his lowest rounds of the year. Boerner's career average of 77.44 shots per round currently ranks 10th in Delaware history.
