UD trustees approve 46 faculty promotions

3:08 p.m., May 21, 2008--The University of Delaware Board of Trustees approved promotions of 46 faculty members at its semiannual meeting May 19 at the Trabant University Center. The appointments take effect Sept. 1.

Seventeen members of the faculty were promoted to the rank of full professor with tenure:

From the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Joshua Duke, food resource and economics;

From the College of Arts and Sciences

James Brophy, history; Richard Cunningham, theatre; Melinda Duncan and Randall Duncan, both biological sciences; Alan Fox and Katherin Rogers, both philosophy; Wunyabari Maloba, Black American Studies; and Rakesh Rakesh, mathematical sciences;

From the College of Engineering

Javier Garcia-Frias, electrical and computer engineering; Darrin Pochan, materials science and engineering; Anne Skaja Robinson, chemical engineering; and Harry Shenton, civil and electrical engineering;

From the College of Health Sciences

Bethany Hall-Long and Thomas Hardie, both School of Nursing; and Mary Ann McLane, medical technology;

From the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy

Belinda Orzada, fashion and apparel studies.

Two faculty members were promoted to the rank of associate professor without tenure. They are Charles Bartlett, entomology and wildlife ecology, in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Donald Lehman, medical technology, in the College of Health Sciences.

In addition, two associate professors in the College of Arts and Sciences were granted tenure: Deborah Allen, biological sciences, and Deena Burke, theatre.
