Kappa Sigma fraternity raises $10,000 for CERTS

2:22 p.m., May 9, 2008--The brothers of Kappa Sigma fraternity raised $10,000 on Saturday, May 3, during their third annual “Run for Their Future,” a 5K run/walk at the James Hall Trail in Newark. The money raised will benefit the Collaborate Effort to Reinforce Transition Success (CERTS) Adult Action Center, a day habilitation program for young adults with severe, multiple disabilities.

Approximately 300 people attended the 5K run/walk, which started at 9 a.m. at the Kappa Sigma house at 720 Academy St.

“The fraternity worked very hard to organize this fundraiser,” said Richie Holland, manager of human resources and affirmative action and faculty adviser to the fraternity. “They feel very strongly about the cause and are excited that the UD community came out to show their support.”

CERTS' mission is to enrich the lives of young adults with multiple, severe disabilities through a stimulating, person-centered, therapeutic day habilitation program that increases independence in each participant's social and functional life skills.
