2:36 p.m., March 14, 2008--UD's School of Education is hosting a symposium on “Changing Conceptions of Special Education,” set for April 24-25, to explore the relationship between general and special education.
The symposium, which is open to the public, will consist of three sessions of presentations followed by intensive discussion among internationally renowned scholars and education policy leaders at the federal, state and local levels.
General topics will include the theories, policies and practices that shape education for students with disabilities; lines of inquiry that can inform current thinking about special education; and challenges for future inquiries into the education of students with disabilities.
Laura Eisenman, associate professor of education at UD; Ralph Ferretti, professor of education at UD; and Kristin Hopson, a graduate student at UD, are organizing the event.
The symposium is made possible with support from the National Research Center on Learning Disabilities. It also is supported at UD by the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy and its Center for Disabilities Studies, the Department of Individual and Family Studies and the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
