With the loss, UD closed the regular season at 13-15 overall and 9-9 in the CAA.
Next for the Fightin' Blue Hens is the CAA tournament, which will be played March 7-10 at the Richmond Coliseum. They will be the seventh seed and will face the tenth seed, Drexel University, in a first round game at 6 p.m., Friday, March 7.
The winner of that game will move on the face the University of North Carolina Wilmington at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 8, in the quarterfinal round.
Against Towson, UD freshman Alphonso Dawson scored 18 points and senior Herb Courtney had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Marc Egerson had 14 points and seven assists and sophomore point guard Brian Johnson had 12 points and six assists.
“We had too many turnovers in the first half, which allowed Towson some easy baskets in transition and enabled them to build a lead,” UD Head Coach Monté Ross said. “We have done a good job of taking care of the ball this season, but for whatever reason we did not take care of the ball today.”
