8:18 a.m., March 24, 2008--The University of Delaware golf team finished 11th at the George Washington Invitational Tournament, held Friday and Saturday at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club in Bethany Beach, Del.
UD freshman Kevin McLister led the Fightin' Blue Hens, shooting a 45-hole total of 190 to finish 18th in individual competition.
McLister shot a 76 in Friday's round over the par 72, 6,834-yard course and carded scores of 77 in Saturday's morning round and 37 in the nine-hole afternoon round to finish at 190 and place tied for 18th in the 100-player field.
Delaware shot a team score of 777 over the 45 holes to finish 11th overall in the 20-team field. The Hens shot a team score of 316 on Friday but improved seven shots over the first 18 holes on Saturday and missed a ninth place finish by just two strokes.
The University of Maryland, led by individual champion Chris Gold, took the team title with a score of 738, 10 strokes better than runner-up George Washington.
Also for Delaware, Tommy Ellison and captain Britt Murdoch tied for 45th place, both shooting 195, Steve Boerner finished 60th with a 99, and Jeff Griest finished 74th with a 202.
The Blue Hens will return to action at the East Carolina University Invitational to be played April 4-6 in Greenville, N.C.
