Class of 2008 will help University go ’green’

8:41 a.m., March 7, 2008--The “greening” of the Newark campus will be the Class of 2008's legacy to the University of Delaware.

During the weeks of Feb. 18-29, 1,300 seniors cast votes for one of six possible gifts to be left to the University as they graduate and move on in life. More than one third voted for “green” improvements to the campus.

Ryan Silberstein, an Arts and Sciences major, won the voters' drawing for a $25 gift certificate for Klondike Kates, a restaurant on Main Street in Newark.

The following are the voting totals and percentages:

  • “Green” campus improvements, 492 votes, 37.8 percent;
  • YoUDee statue, 314 votes, 24.2 percent;
  • Express Internet stations, 226 votes, 17.4 percent;
  • Class of 2008 scholarship fund, 167 votes, 12.8 percent;
  • Financial Technology Center, 53 votes, 4.1 percent; and
  • Unrestricted gift, 48 votes, 3.7 percent.
