4:54 p.m., June 26, 2008--WAMU 88.5-FM in Washington, D.C., will air a feature story about UD entomologists' efforts to control invasive vines at 1 p.m., Friday, June 27. Based at American University, WAMU 88.5 is the leading public radio station for NPR news and information in the greater Washington, D.C., area.
During the news report, WAMU correspondent Sabri Ben-Achour joins UD researchers to release hundreds of stem-boring insects to control “mile-a-minute,” an invasive vine native to Asia. Over the past decade, Judy Hough-Goldstein, a UD professor of entomology, has spearheaded a number of groundbreaking research projects into the biological control of invasive plants with host-specific insects.
