11:39 a.m., July 13, 2007--A roundup of recent news items about UD, its faculty, students, staff and alumni.

Thomas Fernsler, associate policy scientist in the Mathematics and Science Education Resource Center who is also known as Dr. 13 for his interest in triskaidekaphobia, was quoted in a Friday the 13th story in the Buffalo News, was mentioned in USA Today and was interviewed on Metro Networks and on radio station WOKV in Jacksonville, Fla.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted July 13 in a Financial Times story about unusual web attacks on a takeover target by the chief executive officer of Whole Foods Market and in a Chicago Tribune story about a Motorola activist shareholder. Also, he was quoted July 12 in an Associated Press story about a Penn State study on ego-driven executives and a Cincinnati Enquirer story about a new corporate law in Ohio.

Patrick T. Harker, UD president, was featured in an interview on WHYY-TV12's Delaware Tonight program on July 11.

Bill Hall, education specialist with the UD Sea Grant Marine Advisory Service, and Douglas Miller, associate professor of marine and earth studies, were quoted in a July 10 Washington Post story about the organisms that live in beach sand.

Jean Pfaelzer, professor of English and author of the new book Driven Out: The Forgotten War Against Chinese Americans, was featured on National Public Radio's Tell Me More program on July 10.

Debbie Ellingsworth, instructor in the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, and students enrolled in the UD summer culinary camp at Vita Nova, were featured on the WPVI-TV6 news on July 10.

Martin Swany, assistant professor of computer and information sciences, wrote an op-ed piece on the evolution of the internet infrastructure in the July 3 News Journal.
