Willett Kempton, associate professor of marine and earth studies, was featured in the Jan. 7 issue of Forbes magazine in a story about vehicle to grid technology, in which electric cars return power to the grid.

Laurie Wolinski, a UD Cooperative Extension Service associate, was cited in a Dec. 31 Associated Press story about women playing a greater role in farming.

Gerald Kauffman, director of the Water Resources Agency, was quoted in a Dec. 30 News Journal story about flood plains.

Xinqiao Jia, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, and Randall Duncan, associate professor of biological sciences and engineering, were cited in a Dec. 30 News Journal story about innovative achievements in the state. They were recognized for their work in tissue engineering in vocal cords.

Patrick Harker, UD president, was featured in Dec. 29-30 News Journal stories about Fightin' Blue Hens athletics.

David Silver, associate professor of philosophy and director of the Jewish Studies Program, was quoted in a Dec. 28 News Journal story about a grant to support classes in Jewish history, religion, culture and law.

Ismat Shah, professor of materials science and engineering, was quoted in a Dec. 28 Philadelphia Daily News story about the assassination of Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto. Both Shah and Muqtedar Khan, associate professor of political science and international relations, were quoted in a story on the same subject in the News Journal and Khan wrote an op-ed piece in the Dec. 27 Philadelphia Inquirer.

William Sullivan, managing director, and Cihan Cobanoglu, associate professor of hotel, restaurant and institutional management, were quoted in a Dec. 28 News Journal story about an experimental “guest room of the future” in the Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel on campus.

Louis Hirsh, director of admissions, was quoted in a Dec. 27 News Journal story about students selecting the right college.

Fabric coated with shear thickening fluid developed by Norman Wagner, Alvin B. and Julia O. Stiles Professor of Chemical Engineering, and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory was cited in a technology blog in the Dec. 25 Washington Post. The fabric was on display, along with other technologies, at Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean, Va.

Cole Galloway, associate professor of physical therapy, and Sunil Agrawal, professor of mechanical engineering, were featured in a Dec. 21 Associated Press story for their work with babies and robots. AP distributed both print and broadcast stories and the latter was featured on the Yahoo! site.

Sharon Merriman-Nai, project director with the National Center on Elder Abuse in UD's Center for Community Research and Service, was quoted in a Dec. 19 Florence (Ala.) Times story about elder abuse.

James Butkiewicz, professor of economics, was quoted in a Dec. 17 News Journal story about the sluggish housing market.

Danna Young, assistant professor of communication, was quoted in a Dec. 17 Seattle Post-Intelligencer story about politics, television and the writer's strike.

Lana Harrison, professor of sociology, was featured in a Dec. 16 News Journal story about a UD educational program that includes students and prison inmates.

UD's Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship was featured in a Dec. 15 News Journal story about a visit by U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral. “What you're doing here at the University of Delaware is phenomenal,” Cabral said of the center's financial education programs.

Eleanor Craig, associate chairperson and professor of economics, was the featured newsmaker on radio station WILM-AM on Dec. 12. She discussed competition and choice in education in Delaware.
