Susan Strasser, professor of history, had her book Waste and Want: A Social History of Trash, quoted in a Jan. 14 New Yorker story, “American Scrap,” by John Seabrook.

Lynn Snyder-Mackler, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Physical Therapy, was quoted in a Jan. 10 United Press International story about women who delay knee surgery too long.

Douglas Tallamy, chairperson of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology, was featured in a Jan. 10 News Journal story about insects and the need for use of native plants among suburban gardeners. Tallamy has written a new book on the subject, Bringing Nature Home: How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Jan. 9 Knowledge@Wharton story about global models of corporate governance. Elson also was quoted in a Jan. 6 Austin (Texas) American-Statesman story about governance issues at Pedernales Electric Cooperative.

Lauren Parkes, a UD junior, was featured in a Jan. 9 Catonsville (Md.) Times story about her reign as Miss Black Delaware USA.

Robert Nelson, chairperson of the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, was quoted in a Jan. 8 USA Today story about hospitality education at universities.

Marianne Carter, director of the Delaware Center for Health Promotion, which is sponsored jointly by UD and the Office of Lt. Gov. John Carney, is working with the News Journal on a health campaign. Chihan Cobanoglu, associate professor of hotel, restaurant and institutional management, was quoted in a Jan. 8 WPVI-TV story about an experimental guest room at the Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware on the Laird Campus. Also, he was quoted in a Jan. 7 story on the experimental guest room that appeared in Lodging magazine.

Ariel Atlas, a UD sophomore, was quoted in a Jan. 6 BBC story for her work on the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama in New Hampshire.

Alan Fox, associate professor of philosophy, was quoted in a Jan. 5 News Journal story about college textbooks.

John Brunelle, a psychologist with the Center for Counseling and Student Development, was quoted in a Jan. 5 St. Petersburg Times story about home field advantage for sports teams.
