3:30 p.m., Feb. 4, 2008--Chelsea Clinton used a Monday morning visit to Newark, Del., and a town hall meeting sponsored at the University of Delaware by the College Democrats to stump for her mother, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), in her quest for the Democratic presidential nomination. The meeting drew about 300 students, supporters and members of the Newark community to the Trabant University Center.

The event, which was organized by Clinton's campaign team, was meant to highlight and reinforce her position on various issues ahead of the primary elections on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Mark Brainard, a junior political science major from Newark and a member of the College Democrats, introduced Chelsea Clinton, who fielded random questions from the audience on a variety of issues, from the war in Iraq, the mortgage crisis, job creation and homelessness, to her experience as a child when her father was running for president.

Brainard said he was impressed by Chelsea Clinton's poise and grasp of the issues. “She's incredibly charming, incredibly professional. Very, very intelligent, just like her parents,” he said. “She's answering every question with straight answers, which I know is going to be a very positive thing. She presented herself very professionally.

“Having Chelsea here will encourage many students to get out and vote and take an interest in a presidential election that will greatly affect their future,” Brainard said.
