3:36 p.m., Dec. 10, 2007--Tickets for the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision title game between the University of Delaware and Appalachian State University sold out quickly Monday morning. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn.
“We understand everyone's concern regarding tickets for the NCAA championship football game,” UD Director of Athletics Edgar Johnson said.
“Based on our experience in 2003, when the Fightin' Blue Hens won the national championship, we asked for an identical amount of tickets,” Johnson said. “In 2003, ticket sales continued throughout the week when the University returned over 200 unsold tickets. As a result of our experience in 2003, we thought 3,000 tickets was a reasonable number to request in order to meet the anticipated demand. The current demand for playoff tickets is very unusual for us and for the NCAA. The game is currently a sell-out.”
Johnson said that tickets went on sale online Sunday afternoon to season ticket holders first, and to students on Monday morning. In an effort to keep the ticket line shorter and to help those students who were studying or taking final exams when the ticket window opened, he said students were permitted to purchase up to 10 tickets apiece. The student allotment was sold out before 11 a.m.
“We apologize for any inconvenience to our loyal fans and students who have supported the team,” Johnson said.
