C.S. Lewis lecture series set

8:34 a.m., April 16, 2008--The Catholic Campus Ministry at UD is sponsoring a lecture series, “The Mind Seeks Truth and the Heart Seeks Love: An Introduction to the Life and Thought of C.S. Lewis,” on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on April 16 and 30 and May 7 and 14, at the St. Thomas More Oratory. The Rev. J. Albert Paretsky, a Dominican priest, will lead the lecture series.

The following lectures are scheduled:

  • “General Introduction: The Life, Works and Friends of C.S. Lewis, Surprised by Joy,” April 16;
  • “Humanity Confronts the Supernatural in Nature: Screwtape Letters, The Space Trilogy,” April 30;
  • “Grace on the Other Side of the Wardrobe: The Chronicles of Narnia,” May 7; and
  • “The Mind Seeks Truth and the Heart Seeks Love, His Last Novel: Til We Have Faces,” May 14.

For more than 20 years, Paretsky taught sacred scripture at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome and at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. Before serving in the United States Marine Corps, he studied Slavic languages and literature at the graduate level at Harvard University.

Paretsky worked as an itinerant preacher on the West Coast and is a frequent speaker at the Smithsonian Institution, where he has lectured on the topics of sacred and secular literature.
