David L. Brond named associate vice president for external relations at UD

10:14 a.m., April 7, 2008--David L. Brond, vice president of marketing and planning at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore since 1998, has been named associate vice president for external relations at the University of Delaware, President Patrick Harker announced today. His appointment is effective April 28.

The associate vice president reports to the president and has responsibility for the development and implementation of the University's communications activities and the development of institutional relations that are critical to the University's marketing strategies.

“David Brond brings a wealth of experience in marketing, strategy development, corporate communications, branding, market research and public relations that will be key to this new position,” Harker said. “As the University of Delaware moves forward on its new path to prominence, David's insight and energy will be invaluable.”

As vice president of marketing and planning at the University of Maryland Medical System, Brond has responsibility for institutional image, physician marketing, consumer advertising, community outreach and planning efforts. He developed and implemented a branding campaign and a corporate identity program for the University of Maryland Medical Center that raised awareness among area consumers to the highest level in its history. He has directed and facilitated physician, patient and consumer market research, and he has developed strategic plans for the medical center, as well as related annual operating and clinical program plans.

Previously he served as senior manager of National Healthcare Strategy Practice for KPMG Peat Marwick LLP from 1997-98; senior vice president of The Levin Group Inc. from 1996-97; and vice president for marketing, planning and sales at GBMC Healthcare Inc. from 1989-96.

Vice chair of the American Red Cross LifeBoard, Brond is a board member of the Fuel Fund of Maryland and co-chair of its Marketing and Fundraising Committee.

A cum laude 1981 graduate of Bucknell University in economics and geography, he received two graduate degrees from Duke University: a master of business administration degree with honors in 1987 and a master of health administration degree in 1988.
