Library exhibit honors the late John Munroe

4:15 p.m., Sept. 19, 2006--An exhibition, “John A. Munroe, 1914-2006,” by the UD Library is on display in the Information Room on the first floor of the Morris Library.

John Munroe, one of Delaware's best-known historians and a member of the UD faculty for more than 60 years, died Sept. 6. He was 92.

The one-case exhibition includes an account book, handwritten by his mother, of Dr. Munroe's college expenses for the fall of 1932. Also on display is a handwritten and then typed revision of a speech Dr. Munroe gave to the Phi Beta Kappa chapter of Haverford College in 1962, showing his attention to detail and acknowledgement of sources.

The University of Delaware Library Special Collections houses the John A. Munroe Papers, which includes photographs, correspondence, clippings, articles, programs, speeches, diaries, typescripts, contracts, lecture notes, periodicals, vitas, certificates, drawings, reports, flyers, manuscripts, postcards, ballots, autographs, bulletins, newsletters, pamphlets, interviews, Christmas cards, ledgers, settlement accounts and brochures.
