Allen Barnett, research professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was featured in the October issue of Compound Semiconductor magazine for his work in photovoltaics. Barnett is principal investigator of a major Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency grant and is leading a consortium that is trying the vastly improve solar cell efficiency, which the article notes could free soldiers from carrying heavy loads of batteries required on the modern battlefield.

Kimmie Meissner, world champion figure skater and a member of the UD Figure Skating Club, was featured in articles and columns in the Oct. 27 Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun and Hartford Courant, the Oct. 26 Chicago Tribune and Boston Globe, the Oct. 25 USA Today and the Oct. 19 News Journal as she prepares for the 2006-07 season.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an Oct. 26 Reuters story on breakup fees in corporate mergers, an Oct. 23 Boston Globe story on a review of the Massachusetts Port authority sick-time policy, an Oct. 23 Bloomberg story on Silicon Valley scandals, an Oct. 19 Wall Street Journal story on leadership at Coca-Cola and an Oct. 18 Chicago Tribune story on the chief executive officer of the Chicago Board of Trade.

Ravindra Yatawara, assistant professor of economics, was quoted in an Oct. 25 News Journal story about immigrants, their affect on the economy and the practice of sending money back to their home countries.

Eleanor Craig, associate professor of economics, and James Butkiewicz, professor of economics, were quoted in an Oct. 23 News Journal story about the effect on Delaware's economy if DaimlerChrysler decides to close the Newark assembly plant.

Nancy Brickhouse, interim director of the School of Education, was quoted in an Oct. 22 News Journal story profiling Bill Buinger of the Rodel Foundation.

Several UD faculty were featured in an Oct. 22 News Journal story on climate change and the threats it poses to the Delaware coast. They included John Byrne, director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy; Katharina Billups, associate professor of marine and earth studies; Frederick Nelson, professor of geography; Richard W. Garvine, Maxwell P. and Mildred H. Harrington Professor of Marine Studies; Dewey Caron, professor of entomology and wildlife ecology; David Legates, associate professor of geography; and Laurence Kalkstein, senior research fellow.

Linda Gottfredson, professor of education, was quoted in an Oct. 20 Baltimore Sun story about gender stereotypes and mathematics achievement.

James Prodan, chairperson of the Department of Music, and Sanford Robbins, chairperson of the Department of Theatre, were quoted in an Oct. 20 News Journal story on the new Center for the Arts.

Doris Hicks, Sea Grant seafood technology specialist, was quoted in an Oct. 18 San Jose Mercury News story about the health benefits of seafood.

Willett Kempton, associate professor of marine and earth studies, was quoted in an Oct. 18 Bethany Beach Wave story about plans for wind farms off the coast of Delaware.

Ed Kee, crops specialist for the UD Cooperative Extension Service and an instructor in plant and soil sciences, was quoted in an Oct. 17 Salisbury (Md.) Daily Times story about pumpkin season and the toll taken by dry weather.

Ed Ratledge, director of the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, was quoted in an Oct. 17 News Journal story about population gains in Delaware.

Brian Kunkel, entomology specialist for the UD Cooperative Extension Service, was quoted in an Oct. 15 News Journal story about woolly bear caterpillars as winter weather predictors.

Maria Pippidis of the UD Cooperative Extension Service was quoted in an Oct. 15 News Journal story about consumers, lenders and new bankruptcy laws.

Gary Weaver, professor of business administration, was quoted in an Oct. 15 Financial Times story about corporations and the inclusion of sensitive information in e-mail messages.
