Fernsler, associate policy scientist in UD's Mathematics and Science Education Resource Center who is also known as Dr. 13 for his interest in superstitions surrounding the number, was cited in the New York Daily News, the News Journal and the Easton (Pa.) Express-Times, as well as on radio station WDEL, on Friday the 13th. Marvin Zuckerman, professor emeritus of psychology, was quoted in an Oct. 13 ABC News story about the death of New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle, whose airplane crashed into a building. Zuckerman is an expert on risk-taking personalities. Muqtedar Khan, assistant professor of political science and international relations, wrote an opinion piece on the British view of Islam in the Oct. 13 News Journal. Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in an Oct. 12 Wall Street Journal story about the growing scandal related to the backdating of stock options. Elson was quoted in two stories in the Wall Street Journal's Oct. 9 special section on corporate governance. Also, Elson also was quoted in various stories related to corporate governance by The New York Times, CNN Money, Business Week, Reuters, USA Today and the Sacramento Bee. Tsu-Wei Chou, Pierre S. du Pont Chair of Engineering, and Erik Thostenson, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, were cited recently in Composites World, NetComposites News, The Engineer Online, Innovations Report, Science Daily and United Press International for their research on the use of carbon nanotubes to detect and identify damage within advanced composite materials. George Luther, Maxwell P. and Mildred H. Harrington Professor of Marine Studies, was cited recently in Chemical and Engineering News, Weekly Water News, Biology Daily, Ocean Forum and Environment News Service for work in the study of the importance of a dissolved form of manganese to the health of waterways. Randy Duncan, associate professor of biological sciences, and Mary C. Farach-Carson, professor of biological sciences, were quoted in an Oct. 11 News Journal story about UD being ranked among the best workplaces in the nation for researchers in the life sciences. Donald L. Sparks, S. Hallock du Pont Chair of Plant and Soil Sciences, was quoted Oct. 10 by radio stations WDEL and as UD announced the formation of a new Center for Critical Zone Research, which he will direct. Sparks also was interviewed on WBOC-TV about the new center. Joyce Hill Stoner, professor of art conservation and director of UD's Preservation Studies Doctoral Program, was cited in the Allentown Morning Call and the Lancaster Sunday News story about her work as guest curator of the show Factory Work: Warhol, Wyeth and Basquiat currently on exhibition at the Brandywine River Museum. Janet Johnson, associate professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in an Oct. 9 News Journal story on a school funding referendum in Smyrna. Carolyn Thoroughgood, vice provost for research, was quoted in an Oct. 6 Asbury Park (N.J.) Press story about the need for additional funds for storm planning in coastal states. John Bishop, associate vice president for counseling and student development, was quoted in an Oct. 3 News Journal story about how parents can talk to their children about tragedies such as the Amish school shootings. |
