Recycling fund to be senior class gift 2:27 p.m., March 20, 2007--With more than 36 percent of the 1,000 votes cast by seniors, a recycling program has been selected as the Class of 2007's gift to UD. Senior Rachel Eisinger was randomly selected from among those who voted as the winner of a $50 gift certificate and free cap and gown, donated by the UD Bookstore. Heather Barron, associate director of annual giving, said the project is much needed on campus. “A lot of work needs to be done to improve recycling on campus--some ways might include increasing awareness, making recycling easier for our student population, making recycling receptacles available in residence halls and outside around campus, purchasing trucks to collect and dispose of the recyclables, adding weigh stations to track volume and hiring additional staff to coordinate collection and disposal,” Barron said. The goals are to collect $50,000 with 25 percent class participation. The senior class gift committee will meet with UD staff to discuss how the Class of 2007 gift can make the most impact.
