Dyer teaching awards presented to 3 TAs
9:41 a.m., March 22, 2007--UD's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry presented its Elizabeth Dyer Excellence-in-Teaching Awards for exemplary service as graduate teaching assistants (TAs) for the past academic year to Erinc Sahin, Jeffrey Spraggins and Christopher Zordan on March 2 at a departmental graduate recruitment seminar. The award honors graduate students who have served as TAs in exemplary fashion during the past academic year. Each recipient receives a certificate and $250. Sahin taught Chemistry 467 during the fall 2005 semester. He is working on his doctorate in the laboratory of Kristi Kiick, assistant professor of chemical engineering, and Tom Beebe, professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Sahin received his bachelor's degree from Middle East Technical University and his master's degree from Sabanci University in Turkey. Spraggins taught Chemistry 438 during the fall 2005 semester and Chemistry 120 in the spring 2006 semester. He received his bachelor's degree from Wooster College and is working on his doctorate in the laboratory of Douglas Ridge, professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Zordan taught Chemistry 103 during the fall 2005 semester and Chemistry 112 in the spring 2006 semester. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware and is currently working on his doctorate in the laboratory of Murray Johnston, professor of chemistry and biochemistry. The Dyer Award honors the memory of Elizabeth Dyer, a member of the chemistry/biochemistry faculty from 1933-71, and has been given to outstanding teaching assistants since 1981. Dyer and Quaesita Drake were the first two women to hold faculty positions in the chemistry/biochemistry department after Delaware's men's and women's colleges were joined in 1944. |
