Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a June 14 Associated Press story about retirement plans for Blackstone Group executives, in a June 8 Cincinnati Enquirer story about investors and a June 3 Pittsburgh Tribune Review story about compensation for corporate executives. Elson also was quoted in a May 30 Wall Street Journal story about the chief executive of Wal-Mart Stores and company policies on interactions with suppliers and in a May 26 Indianapolis Business Journal story on perquisites for chief executive officers.

A story on new touch screen technology by Apple and Microsoft posted June 14 on the Time magazine web site notes development done at Fingerworks, a company formed by University of Delaware researchers John Elias and Wayne Westerman.

Charles Buz Swanik, assistant professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, was featured in a June 13 Reuters story about brain function and knee injuries. The story was based on research reported in the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Marianne Green, assistant director in UD's Bank of America Career Services Center, was quoted in a June 11 News Journal story about summer internships. “You have to consider your own needs, and you have to consider the student's needs as well,” she said.

Janet B. Johnson, associate professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in a June 10 News Journal story about legislative bills that simply fade away under powerful committee chairs. “Becoming a committee chairperson is a powerful position. That's something to aspire to because then you can really have an impact on what legislation does pass," Johnson said.

Brittany Dempsey, a junior in the College of Health Sciences who has been crowned the 2007 Miss Delaware, was featured in the June 9 Delaware State News.

Bud Malone, UD Cooperative Extension Service poultry agent, was quoted in a June 9 Associated Press story about a debate over methods for destroying large numbers of birds should there be a major outbreak of avian flu.

Muqtedar Khan, assistant professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in a June 7 Associated Press story about a Pew Research Center poll concerning Muslims in the United States.

William Latham, associate professor of economics, was quoted in a June 3 News Journal story about sports betting legislation.

Jean Pfaelzer, professor of English, was cited in the June 3 San Francisco Chronicle and Tacoma News Tribune for her new book Driven Out: The Forgotten War Against Chinese Americans. The Chronicle review by Tony Platt, professor emeritus at California State University Sacramento, said, “Pfaelzer's book ensures that we can no longer treat the ethnic cleansing of Chinese Americans as an exotic, albeit deplorable footnote to the California story. Now that we know better, we are obliged to act: It's time to offer sorrowful apologies, create public memorials, honor Chinese resistance and rewrite the textbooks and lesson plans.”

Lisa Chieffo, associate director of the UD Center for International Studies, was cited in a June 1 Chronicle of Higher Education story about study abroad programs. She discussed participation by freshman and said first-year students who went abroad were more likely to go again.

Roberta Michnick Golinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Chair in Human Services, Education and Public Policy, was featured in a May 27 News Journal story about the power of free play for children.

Alex Smith, a star on the UD men's lacrosse team, was featured in the May 26 issue of The New York Times, which cited his unusual ability to win face-offs.
