UD marine policy scientists Willett Kempton and Jeremy Firestone and doctoral student Andrew Krueger were highlighted in a Jan. 26 Cape Gazette story about their research on support by Delaware residents for wind power. They also were cited in a Jan. 21 Delaware State News story on the issue. World Champion Kimmie Meissner of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club has been featured in the Jan. 25 Boston Globe and News Journal, the Jan. 24 Washington Post and Baltimore Sun, the Jan. 23 Philadelphia Inquirer and a Jan. 22 Associated Press story as she competes at the 2007 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Meissner skated her short program live on ESPN Jan. 25, and ABC will televise the senior ladies free skate on Saturday. Ron Ludington, director of UD's Ice Skating Science Development Center, and a number of skaters who train on campus, were featured in a Jan. 23 News Journal story about Delaware's large presence in American figure skating. John Byrne, director of UD's Center for Energy and Public Policy, was quoted in a Jan. 23 News Journal story about action on climate change sought by a number of corporate chief executive officers, including DuPont's Charles O. Holliday Jr. Timothy E. Targett, professor of marine and earth studies, was quoted in a Jan. 23 News Journal story about a conference concerning research about and management of the Delaware estuary. Suzanne J. Cherrin, assistant professor of women's studies, was quoted in a Jan. 23 News Journal story about the trend of female-on-female kissing. Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Jan. 21 Associated Press story about greed among corporate executives putting potential mergers at risk. InWords: The Art of Language, an exhibition on view in the University Gallery, was featured in the Jan. 21 Philadelphia Inquirer. Art critic Edward J. Sozanski wrote that “text may supply information, but it also has visual power,” adding that much of the work in the exhibition “implies that language has a nonliterary component that can communicate feeling, emotion and intensity without actually saying anything.” John Elias, professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Wayne Westerman, an alumnus and former visiting assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, were featured in a front page Jan. 19 News Journal story about their work on multi-touch devices and speculation about their role in the development of some features of the new Apple iPhone. Steven M.
