Willett M. Kempton, associate professor of marine and earth studies, and Richard W. Garvine, Maxwell P. and Mildred H. Harrington Professor of Marine Studies, were quoted in a Feb. 7 ABC News story about a UD study on wind power. Kempton also was quoted in a Jan. 31 Salisbury (Md.) Daily Times story.

Janet Hethorn, associate professor of fashion and apparel studies, was quoted in a front page Feb. 8 News Journal story about school districts in the state considering uniforms for students. "You can't just put on different clothes and become a different person," Hethorn said.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Feb. 5 Financial Times story on private equity groups and a Jan. 31 Bloomberg News story about the formation of a policy group by the accounting industry. Elson appeared on the American Public Media Marketplace program on Jan. 29 to discuss Senate debate over limits on compensation for retiring corporate chiefs and on CNBC on Jan. 26 to discuss the fallout of the Sarbanes-Oxley corporate governance law.

Patrick T. Harker, who will become the UD president in July, was featured in a Feb. 2 Chronicle of Higher Education story about his decision to leave his position as dean of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania to accept the presidency at Delaware.

Christine E. Cook, assistant provost for research management and operations, was quoted in a Feb. 2 Chronicle of Higher Education story about UD training sessions offered to researchers to help them in the research grants process.

Jeffrey H. Harris, professor of finance, had his work on oil prices cited in a Feb. 2 Business Week story. Harris was among the authors of a study published by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

UD's pioneering study abroad program was mentioned in a Feb. 2 Wall Street Journal story about modern study “abroad,” in which some universities are offering trips within the United States.

Louis Hirsh, UD director of admissions, was featured on WDEL-AM on Feb. 1 as he discussed the increase in freshman applications despite the University having dropped early decision.

John Antil, associate professor of business administration, was quoted about Super Bowl advertising on Feb. 2 on WILM-AM, in a Feb. 1 Agence France-Press story and in the Jan. 31 News Journal.

Joseph Pika, professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in a Feb. 1 News Journal story about the presidential bid by U.S. Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.), himself a UD alumnus.

Farley Grubb, professor of economics, had his research on fraternities and sororities discussed in the Chronicle of Higher Education's Magazines & Journals section on Feb. 1 in the article “A glance at The American Journal of Economics and Sociology: The academic consequences of going Greek.”

Kimmie Meissner, the national and world champion who competes for the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, was featured in a Jan. 31 Baltimore Sun story about her victory at last week's U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the endorsement opportunities it has afforded. Meissner has signed with Subway, Under Armour and Visa. Meissner was featured widely following her victory in Spokane, and appeared on NBC's Today Show on Jan. 31.

Joyce Hill Stoner, professor of art conservation, was quoted in a Jan. 31 News Journal story about effort to keep an N.C. Wyeth mural in Delaware.

Carolyn Thoroughgood, vice provost for research and graduate studies, was featured in the Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education electronic newsletter.

Alexis Jervis, Kim Winnington and Stephanie Moran, UD students, were featured in a Jan. 31 News Journal story about the training of Seeing Eye dogs. UD is one of three universities, along with Rutgers and Rowan, that have student groups that raise and train dogs for Seeing Eye.
