Graduate assistant joins Blue Hen volleyball staff

Sarah Graves will serve as a graduate assistant coach with the Fightin’ Blue Hens volleyball team.

9:13 a.m., Aug. 18, 2006--Sarah Graves, a 2006 graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., has been named a graduate assistant coach with the University of Delaware volleyball team by Fightin' Blue Hens Head Coach Bonnie Kenny.

Graves, a native of Lawrence, Kansas, earned her degree in communications and media studies with a minor in classics at Macalester and will pursue a master's degree at UD. She joins a staff that includes Kenny and Cindy Gregory, associate head coach.

While at NCAA Division III Macalester, Graves played right-side hitter and setter and was a three-year captain for the Scots. She led the team in service aces for three consecutive seasons and finished her career ranked third in school history in assists, block assists and aces.

At Lawrence Free State High School, she started for three seasons and led the team to a second-place finish at the state championships in 1998 and a fourth-place finish in 1999.

The Hens will open the 2006 season Aug. 25-26 when they host the University of Texas Arlington, Seton Hall University and Marist College in the Delaware Invitational tournament to be played on Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.
