James Hiebert, Robert J. Barkley Professor of Educational Development and co-author of the 1999 book The Teaching Gap, was cited in a Nov. 21 New York Times opinion piece on Japan as a model for better schools.

Tricia Wachtendorf, assistant professor of sociology with UD’s Disaster Research Center, was quoted in Nov. 18 and Oct. 31 Miami Herald stories about hurricane assistance provided by religious organizations to both responders and victims.

Lauren Barsky, a graduate student with UD’s Disaster Research Center, was featured in a Nov. 17 Christian Science Monitor story on disaster research as a field now in high demand.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair of Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Nov. 16 Raleigh News and Observer story about perks given to Progress Energy’s departing chief financial officer, in a Nov. 6 News Journal story on high pay for chief executive officers and in a Nov. 1 Sacramento Bee story about criticism of the way GenCorp Inc. selects its board of directors and.

Louis Hirsh, director of admissions, was quoted in a Nov. 14 story in the Passaic Herald News about college visits during the long weekend when the New Jersey Education Association holds its annual convention.

Paul R. Jones, UD benefactor, and Amalia Amaki, curator of the Paul R. Jones Collection, were cited in a Nov. 13 Atlanta Journal Constitution story about the Spelman College show A Century of African-American Art: Selections from the Paul R. Jones Collection, which traveled to Atlanta following a long and very successful run at UD.

Muqtedar Khan, assistant professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in a Nov. 13 Deseret Morning News story about a forum on Islam in the United States and in a Nov. 5 Associated Press story about choices facing American Muslims.

Steven M. Eidelman, Robert Edelsohn Chair in Disabilities Studies, was featured in a Nov. 12 National Public Radio All Things Considered segment on plans by a Tennessee center to offer VeriChip microchips to its clients with cognitive and related developmental disabilities.

New Mexico State University officials announced they hope to join the University of Delaware as one of the few institutions of higher education to offer live hotel training on campus, according to a story in the Nov. 11 New Mexico Business Weekly. At UD, students in the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management have opportunities to work in the new Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware.

Joan DelFattore, professor of English and legal studies, and John McDonald, associate professor of biological sciences, were quoted in a Nov. 6 News Journal story about the controversy surrounding the teaching of intelligent design in public schools.

Irene Davis, professor of physical therapy, was featured in a Nov. 6 ABC World News Tonight Sunday segment on barefoot runners.

Laurence Kalkstein, senior research fellow at UD’s Center for Climatic Research, was quoted in a Nov. 4 Associated Press story about how there is no escaping natural disasters, no matter where you live in the United States.

Allen Barnett, research professor in electrical and computer engineering, and Christiana Honsberg, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, were quoted in Nov. 3 News Journal, Delaware State News, Associated Press, WHYY-TV, WDEL-AM and WILM-AM stories about a large federal grant for solar research at UD.

James Elfers, library assistant, was featured in a Nov. 3 Chicago Tribune story about his book The Tour to End All Tours, which is about the 1913-14 world baseball barnstorming trip by the New York Giants and the Chicago White Sox.

Matthew Robinson, associate professor of sport management, was quoted in a Nov. 3 News Journal story about a campus visit by NCAA President Myles Brand, which Robinson organized.

Enrico Quarantelli, professor emeritus of sociology and founding director of UD’s Disaster Research Center, was quoted in an Oct. 31 Cox News Service story about the need for an independent review of the response following Hurricane Katrina. He recommended that a panel of academics, emergency managers and members of the public should "look at the situation and see what you can learn from it."

Balaji Panchapakesan, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, was quoted in an Oct. 31 Toronto Sun story about his research into cancer-killing nanobombs.

Benigno Aguirre, professor of sociology with UD’s Disaster Research Center, was quoted in an Oct. 30 Miami Herald story about how hurricanes have a devastating impact on the poor. ''People who are already poor, who are already living on the edge, are facing two disasters: the storm and the aftermath,'' he said. ``They simply cannot afford a disaster, and they will suffer more.''

Richard Sylves, professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in an Oct. 30 Miami Herald story about glitches in Florida storm relief in the wake of Hurricane Wilma. 'It doesn't usually go smoothly in mammoth disasters, no matter how well you plan,'' he said. ``If you're standing out there a day after the hurricane complaining you're not getting ice, you're spoiled.''

Ralph Begleiter, Edward and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Communication and Distinguished Journalist in Residence at UD, was quoted in an Oct. 30 New York Times story about media reaction to the 2,000th American armed forces death in Iraq.

Susan Stroman, a Tony Award-winning 1976 UD graduate who has taken Broadway by storm with The Producers and Contact, was cited in an Oct. 28 Playbill note concerning her visit to the University of Delaware, where she received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree.
