Many happy returns to the hotel!

4:53 p.m., Nov. 18, 2005--It was celebration time at the Courtyard Newark--University of Delaware when the hotel marked its first birthday Thursday with a party and cake for its staff and employees, given by the office of the executive vice president and treasurer on behalf of the University community.

The four-story, 126-room hotel on the Laird Campus is a partnership between UD and the Shaner Hotel Group. Not only does the hotel offer all the services and amenities of a fine, business-class hotel, it also offers UD students in the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, hands-on learning opportunities, as well as research and educational opportunities for faculty.

“It’s been a good, successful first year since we opened up last November,” Bill Sullivan, managing director, said. “We have been well-received by the University community and the business community, have hosted numerous visitors and have lived up to our educational mission by providing practicums for students in hotel, restaurant and institutional management.”
