Southern Delaware convocation held at Rehoboth Beach

4:40 p.m., May 27, 2006--UD President David P. Roselle presided over the University's Southern Delaware convocation ceremony Thursday evening, May 25, at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club.

Addressing the gathering of students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy (CHEP), Roselle congratulated graduates on their accomplishments and encouraged them in their future endeavors.

Roselle also gave special recognition to students graduating with Associate in Arts degrees, saying that such degrees mark a valuable intermediate goal and guarantee eligibility to continue study for a bachelor's degree in many traditional liberal arts majors.

The president acknowledged all UD faculty members present, as well as the parents, spouses and other relatives and friends in the audience, whom he credited with supporting the graduates.

Shanté Stargell Hastings, a member of UD’s Alumni Association, gave the closing remarks to the ceremony and reminded graduates that they were joining the distinguished group of more than 140,000 UD alumni.
Following Roselle's opening remarks, students, beginning with those earning Associate in Arts degrees, filed to the podium to collect their diplomas and receive individual recognition from Roselle; John Courtright, director of Undergraduate Studies; and Thomas Apple, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Students graduating with degrees from the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy received individual recognition from Roselle, Courtright and Timothy Barnekov, dean of the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.

Shanté Stargell Hastings, a member of UD's Alumni Association, gave the closing remarks to the ceremony and reminded graduates that they were joining the distinguished group of more than 140,000 UD alumni. Before inviting everyone to stay for the reception, she congratulated graduates on behalf of the Alumni Association.

The reception following the ceremony was held in the Bay View Room of the country club.
