Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a May 19 St. Paul Pioneer Press story about the future of the UnitedHealth chairman and chief executive officer, in a May 18 San Jose Mercury News story about the resignation of an Oracle board member and in a May 18 Washington Post story on decreasing job security for top executives. CEO turnover “creates a culture of accountability,” Elson told the Post. “Boards who remove CEOs are to be congratulated. They're doing their job.” Elson also was quoted in a May 12 Baltimore Business Journal story about Under Armour. Mary Ann Hitchens, senior associate athletic director, was featured in a May 17 News Journal story following her announcement that she will retire next month. Muqtedar Khan, assistant professor of political science and international relations, and Stuart Kaufman, professor of political science and international relations, were quoted in a May 17 News Journal story about a UD panel discussion on U.S. relations with the Islamic world. Also, Khan was mentioned in a May 15 Kansas City Star column on diversity in the American religious landscape. David Legates, associate professor of geography, had his work highlighted in a May 15 Washington Times column on global warming and its impact, or lack thereof, on the polar bear population. Joyce Dennis Henderson, assistant director of UD's MBNA Career Services Center, was quoted in a May 14 News Journal story on the blurring of lines between work time and private time given advances in communications tools. Alumni Brian Newman, a graduate of UD's Professional Theatre Training Program, was featured in a May 17 News Journal story about his work a production manager for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Alyson Radel Lester, a UD engineering graduate, was featured in the May 14 News Journal after winning the 2006 Young Civil Engineer of the Year Award from the Philadelphia section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. |
