Five students recognized for academic achievement

4:41 p.m., May 27, 2006--Five students in the University of Delaware's Class of 2006 were recognized for achieving the highest cumulative grade index--4.0--in full-time study for a baccalaureate degree at the University during Commencement on May 27.

Recognized at the ceremony by Robert A. Fischer Jr., vice chairman of the University's Board of Trustees, were Ryan Charles Burk, Jessica Ann Hall, Ryan Eric Morgan, Vivek Prashant Patel and Andrea Lang Schrijvers.

Burk, the son of Steve and Karen Burk, both UD graduates, of Hummelstown, Pa., received an honors degree in civil engineering with a minor in economics. This fall, he will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to pursue a doctorate in economics.

Hall, the daughter of Bill and Elona Hall of Exton, Pa., received an honors degree in animal science with a concentration in pre-veterinary medicine and minors in German and biological sciences. This fall, she will attend Harvard Medical School in the biological and biomedical sciences doctoral program.

Morgan, the son of Bob and Margie Morgan from Dallas, Pa., received a dual honors degree in finance and economics with a minor in management information systems. He plans to join Deloitte & Touche in Philadelphia as a consultant.

Patel, the son of Prashant and Priti Patel of Newark, received a dual degree in biological sciences and psychology and has plans to pursue his medical degree and doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh/Carnegie Mellon University.

Schrijvers, the daughter of Wally and Susan Lang of Larimore, N.D., received an honors degree in international relations with a concentration in diplomacy and world order and a minor in Spanish. She will leave in July to pursue an internship at the International Criminal Court at The Hague, in the Netherlands.
