UD's Zukowski competes for World Junior medal

10:53 a.m., March 9, 2006--Christine Zukowski of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club is in third place after her short program at the 2006 World Junior Championships, being held in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Zukowski scored 51.37 points and trails Yu-Na Kim of Korea with 60.86 points and Mao Asada of Japan with 56.10 points. She will compete in the ladies free skate, or long program, today.

In the junior pairs competition, UD's Bridget Namiotka and John Coughlin finished in fourth place after a stellar free skate. They were second best in the free skate and climbed from sixth place to fourth with the effort.

In the men's competition, UD's Geoff Varner successfully advanced from the qualifying round to the short program, which will begin on Friday.
