Women's leadership series set

2:05 p.m., March 6, 2006--A series of workshops on women's leadership, sponsored by the Student Centers, will begin Monday, March 6. Topics include business, gender, leadership, public speaking and health issues. The workshop schedule is below.

Toxic Leadership, 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 6, in the theatre of the Trabant University Center, will address the ideas from Jean Lipman-Blumen's book “The Allure of Toxic Leaders.” It will cover what to do when being led by a toxic leader and which preventative steps to take from becoming one.

Overcoming Your Fear of Public Speaking, 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, in room 219 of the Trabant University Center, will help students overcome this common fear, whether it is for a two-minute presentation or a class lecture.

How Does the Power of Gender Affect You, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9, in Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center, will examine the issues surrounding the power of gender, especially how it applies to women at UD. Dr. Lin Gordon, director of UD's Academic Enrichment Center, will be the speaker.

Baby Got Back, Again, 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 13, in Multipurpose Room B of the Trabant University Center, will explore the concept of body image across time and culture, focusing on how what is sexy changes depending on what society needs from women and how the ideal body type differs depending on race and ethnicity.

Your 30-Second Commercial, 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, in the Kirkwood Room of the Perkins Student Center, will teach listeners how to impress possible employers in the first 30 seconds of an interview. First impressions are very important and this lecture will teach potential job applicants how to wow them with poise and confidence.

Diversity Among Women: What We Know and Why It Matters, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 16, in Multipurpose Room C of the Trabant University Center, will explore diversity among women, focusing on the different experiences women have because gender, race, class, age and sexual orientation.

Nutrition Talk, 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, location yet to be determined, will discuss how to improve one's diet and nutrition. Terry Crosson, a visiting dietician, will be the lecturer.
