Virginia Tech tops UD in women's lacrosse

9:13 a.m., March 28, 2006--The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team fell 23-8 to host Virginia Tech in a game played Monday in Blacksburg, Va. The Hokies scored the first 10 goals to break the game open in the first half.

With the loss, the Fightin' Blue Hens fell to 3-5. They will return to action with Colonial Athletic Association games at the College of William & Mary at 4 p.m., Friday, March 31, and at Old Dominion University at noon, Sunday, April 2.

Sophomore Casey McCrudden led UD with four goals while freshman Lindyn Soviero had two goals and one assist and senior Megan Hager had two goals. Freshman Erin Zimmerman earned the first point of her career with an assist on McCrudden's third goal of the day.

In the net for UD, freshman Jess Cerveny had five saves and classmate Suzy Herlihy had three.
