9:46 a.m., March 30, 2006--The University of Delaware softball team defeated Delaware State University 8-1 and 2-0 in a doubleheader played Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware Diamond. With the victories, the Fightin' Blue Hens improved to 20-8 on the season.

UD will remain at home for a three-game weekend Colonial Athletic Association series against conference newcomer Georgia State University. The teams will meet in a doubleheader beginning at noon, Saturday, April 1, and in a single game at noon, Sunday, April 2.

Against Delaware State, UD pitcher Lindsay Jones scattered five hits for the win in the opener and Carolynn Sloat blanked the Hornets on five hits in the nightcap.

In the first game, UD sophomore second baseman Allison Borchers, the CAA Player of the Week, hit a two-run triple to get the Hens on the board in the third inning. She scored on a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Michelle Plant. The Hens put the game away with four runs in the sixth inning.

In the second game, UD scored single runs in the third and fifth innings. Plant scored Lee on a single in the third, and rightfielder Katie DeSalvo scored on an error in the fifth. Catcher Quinn Megargel had a triple in the game.
