UD women's rowing competes in regatta

11:02 a.m., March 13, 2006--The University of Delaware “B” boat won the varsity fours race as the women's rowing team competed against St. Joseph's and Lehigh universities on Saturday afternoon in a regatta on the Schuylkill River.

The UD “B” boat of coxswain Callie Tegan, Justine Strausser, Nikki Jackowsky, Katie Broullire and Lana Rivers won the race in 8:16.2, while the UD “A” boat of coxswain Cami Off, Lily Chavarriaga, Rachel Thomas, Emily Canniff and Lynn Hamski finished second in 8:24.3. St. Joseph's came in third in the event in 8:29.8.

St. Joseph's won the other four races, including the varsity eights in 7:04.8. The UD boat of coxswain Kenna Plangemann, Melanie Turner, Lane Kohl, Christina Stanley, Laura Beaufort, Elizabeth Carey, Jess Kostick, Jenn Boutin and Cathy Savarese finished second in 7:17.6, while Lehigh was third in 7:31.6.

St. Joseph's took the second varsity eights race in 7:07.8, while the UD boat of coxswain Alison Harrington, Justine Strausser, Nikki Jackowsky, Katie Broullire, Lindsey Wood, Lily Chavarriaga, Rachel Thomas, Kristen Cannatelli and Lana Rivers finished second in 7:28.9 and Lehigh finished third in 7:54.6.

The Hawks won the novice fours race in 8:15.8, while Lehigh finished second in 8:40.5. The UD boat of coxswain Rasheda Gilyard, Sara Wetstone, Katie Gooding, Samantha Vauthier and Nicolette Lotrionte came in third in 8:54.5.

St. Joseph's captured the novice eights race in 7:21.1, ahead of Lehigh, which finished second in 7:36.7. The UD boat of coxswain Amanda Burton, Lisa Ferrara, Candace Quinn, Emma Weichselbaum, Kiersten Joesten, Lisa Medina, Catherine Hansen, Liz Clark and Taima McCartney finished third in 7:47.9.

UD will return to action on Saturday, March 25, when the Hens compete in the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia.
