Talk on indigenous rights set Thursday 4:08 p.m., March 7, 2006--Cecelia Martinez, senior research advisor at the Women's Environmental Institute, will give a talk on the rights of indigenous peoples from noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 9. The lecture, Indigenous Rights and the Culture of Sustainability: Critical Reflections on Equity, Resistance and Global Development, will be held in the Ewing Room at Perkins Student Center, and lunch will be provided. Martinez has conducted research and policy advocacy in the area of indigenous peoples' rights for more than 15 years and has published in the area of environmental and health policy, the indigenous language and cultural sovereignty and native community systems. In 1990, Martinez completed her dissertation at UD, and during her doctoral studies she helped shape UD's Center for Energy and Environmental Policy. Article by Rachel Cirone, AS '06 |
