New Music Delaware in concert Friday

3:59 p.m., March 2, 2006--UD's Department of Music presents New Music Delaware, featuring clarinetist and composer Michael Lowenstern, at 8 p.m., Friday, March 3, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Considered one of the finest bass clarinetist in the world, Lowenstern has performed, recorded and toured the U.S. and abroad as a soloist and with various ensembles. As a composer, he has written music for concert, film and dance. He also is actively involved with new technology in sound and music and is one of the country's leading producers of creative electro-acoustic music.

Lowenstern received a Fulbright grant in 1989 to study in Amsterdam and won first prize at the International Gaudeamus Competition in the Netherlands in 1991. He graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and received further training at the Eastman School of Music and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Lowenstern has taught at the Juilliard School and at New York University. Today he travels as a guest lecturer to universities around the country.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults, $3 for students and $7 for seniors and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant University Center or the Bob Carpenter Center box offices.
