March of Dimes walk at UD April 30

12:01 p.m., March 16, 2006--Be a hero for the tiniest babies by joining the UD Walk America team on Sunday, April 30, to raise money for the Delaware chapter of the March of Dimes.

Registration for the family-oriented fund-raiser begins at 9 a.m., and walkers step off at 10 a.m. from the Delaware Field House.

March of Dimes incentives for members of Team UD include T-shirts for the first 50 members of the University community who register with $50 or more in pledges, and entertainment will include appearances by YoUDee and WSTW radio personalities.

This year's six-mile walk also will feature the usual attractions for kids, including the moonbounce in the Field House parking lot and complimentary snacks and lunch. Strollers and dogs on leashes also are welcome, as are rollerblades, provided that protective gear is worn. An opportunity to be photographed with Team UD also will be offered at 9:45 a.m., near the stage.

Brochures with registration information will be available for pickup by the end of March at the Trabant and Perkins student centers, the Carpenter Sports Building, the Employee Wellness Center, Clayton Hall, the Bob Carpenter Center and other campus locations.

For more information on joining Team UD, contact team co-captains Margot Hsu Carroll (phone (302) 831-2200; e-mail [margotc@udel.edu]) or Suzanne Deshong (phone (302) 831-8964; e-mail [deshong@udel.edu]. To make donations directly online, visit [www.walkamerica.org/deshong].

The March of Dimes is committed to preventing birth defects and infant mortality through education, research, community programs and advocacy. More than $1 billion has been raised during Walk America's 33-year history, and last year Team UD raised slightly more than $10,000 for the cause.
