Kimmie Meissner of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club, who is competing in the International Skating Union World Championships in Calgary, was featured on ABC's Good Morning America on March 24. She also was featured in a March 24 Baltimore Sun story about her newfound confidence on the ice.

Karen Rosenberg, chairperson of the Department of Anthropology, was featured in the March 24 News Journal for her research on a fossil from a Stone Age skeleton found in northeastern China.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair in Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a March 24 MarketWatch story about a settlement between Sovereign Bancorp and Relational Investors. Elson also was quoted in a March 22 Financial Times story on Citigroup, in a March 21 News Journal story on pay for the Bank of America chief executive officer, in a March 20 USA Today story on corporate governance advances and in a March 19 San Jose Mercury News story on investor groups seeking a bigger voice in board elections. Elson also was quoted in the March 17 Wall Street Journal, the March 16 Pittsburgh Tribune Review, the March 15 Newsday, and the March 14 San Francisco Chronicle and Baltimore Sun.

Muqtedar Khan, assistant professor of political science and international relations, was quoted in a March 23 New York University Washington Square News story about challenges faced by American Muslims following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Khan also wrote an opinion piece for United Press International on the role the Muslim concept of ijtihad could play in bridging tensions.

Norman Wagner, Alvin B. and Julia O. Stiles Professor of Chemical Engineering, was featured in a March 23 News Journal story about his research on liquid body armor, which is now being commercialized and may soon be available for use by troops and law enforcement officials.

Roberta Michnick Golkinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Chair in Human Services, Education and Public Policy, was featured on ABC's Good Morning America on March 23 to discuss a new study she and colleagues at Temple University and the University of Evansville have published concerning how babies learn words. Golinkoff also was cited on a WebMD story about the study that has circulated internationally.

David Hutchins, professor of oceanography, was featured on WHYY-TV on March 21 following a presentation titled “A Sea Change Coming: The Oceans in a Time of Global Change” as part of the College of Marine Studies lunch and lecture series in Wilmington.

Kenneth A. Lewis, Chaplin Tyler Professor of Economics, was quoted in March 21 Delaware State News story about an increase in state revenue. Lewis is chairperson of the Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council revenue subcommittee.

Xiao-Hai Yan, Mary A. S. Lighthipe Professor of Marine Studies and co-director of the Center for Remote Sensing, was cited on Science Daily and web sites worldwide for his work on the detection of deep-ocean whirlpools.

Meryl Gardner, associate professor of business administration, was quoted in a March 20 San Diego Union-Tribune story on the sudden spread of shops that sell smoothies.

Ed Ratledge, director of the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, was quoted in a March 16 News Journal story about booming growth in Sussex County.

James Keegan, assistant professor at the UD Academic Center in Georgetown, was featured in a March 16 News Journal story about his involvement as a Shakespearean actor.

Eleanor Craig, associate professor of economics, and James Butkiewicz, professor of economics, were quoted in a March 14 Bloomberg News story about Delaware being named a top state for workers just as it prepares for layoffs in the banking industry.

The University's REAL Project, a pilot program administered by the Center for Disabilities Studies, was featured in a March 7 News Journal story. REAL stands for Recreation Enhancement and Learning.
