Police seek suspect in Howard Johnson holdup

4:56 p.m., March 1, 2006--Newark Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at about 10:14 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Howard Johnson Inn and Suites on South College Avenue near I-95.

Police said a man wearing a mask to cover his face held up a desk clerk and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The robber was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black gloves and black shoes and was carrying a small, dark handgun.

Police said the robber demanded money from the clerk, displaying the gun, which might have been a semi-automatic.

After the clerk complied, the gunman ran out of the lobby and headed south toward I-95, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Newark Police at (302) 366-7111 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
