Excellence in Service Award deadline March 31

10:56 a.m., March 2, 2006--The deadline for submission of nominations for UD's new Excellence in Service Award program is Friday, March 31. Anyone, including students, can nominate a full-time employee.

The awards will be given annually, and up to six can be given in any year, with each recipient receiving $2,500. For complete details about the program and to find out how to nominate an employee, visit [www.udel.edu/hr/excellenceinservice].

Professional and salaried employees who make “outstanding contributions” to the University, are eligible to receive UD's newly created Excellence in Service Award, Maxine Colm, vice president for administration, announced in January.

“The University's staff members contribute in many ways to the successes of our institution,” UD President David Roselle said. “We appreciate their good service to our students, their ideas that have led to better business practices, and the many other services they provide. The origin of the new program is our desire to recognize and reward those members of the staff who make such contributions.“

To be considered, an employee should have extensive knowledge and a deep commitment to UD and be able to demonstrate a positive and lasting impact on students and the University.

“The award was created to recognize professional and salaried staff who contribute in significant ways to the University's living and learning environment and who provide service excellence to students and members of the University community that far exceeds the assigned responsibilities of the individual's position,” Colm said.

A committee appointed by the vice president for administration will choose the winners. The committee will include representatives of the Professional, Salaried Staff and Human Resources Advisory councils.

Nominations must be accompanied by supporting documentation clearly showing the nominee's support for students or impact on the larger University community.

Supporting documentation should be sent to Richie Holland, human resources manager, in the Office of Human Resources.

“Many don't realize what a huge role our professional and salaried staff play in our student's well-being and in UD's success. This recognition of their contribution will underscore the importance of their work,” Holland said.
