'Economics Challenge' at UD March 11 3:55 p.m., March 2, 2006--UD will host the Delaware competition of the National Economics Challenge from 9:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m., Saturday, March 11, in Lerner Hall. The Economics Challenge is a contest for high school students testing their knowledge of economics by working in teams on a series of exams in micro, macro and international economics and current events. Competitions are being held in 35 states to encourage students to apply their knowledge of economics, work in teams and have fun. Delaware's winning team will advance to regional competition that will take place on April 23-24. Regional winners go on to national competition May 20-22 in New York City. Each member of Delaware's winning team will be awarded a $500 U.S. Savings Bond. The runner-up team will win $250 bonds. Regional finalist teams and their teachers will each receive $1,000 U.S. Savings Bonds, and the runner-up teams and their teachers will each receive a $500 bond. Each member of the national championship teams and their teachers will receive a $3,000 U.S. Savings Bond, and the runner-up teams and their teachers will receive $1,500 bonds. The Economics Challenge is sponsored by The Goldman Sachs Foundation, the National Council on Economic Education, the Delaware Council on Economic Education and UD's Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship.
