Delaware's Dodson second in IC4A mile

Brad Dodson
2:21 p.m., March 6, 2006--University of Delaware junior Brad Dodson finished second in the mile run at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes in America (IC4A) Track and Field Championships held Sunday in Boston, and in so doing earned All-East honors.

Dodson covered the mile in a time of 4:08.86 and finished less than one-half second behind the winner, John Mickowski of the U.S. Military Academy.

Dodson, who set the UD record in the mile with a time of 4:07.43 earlier this season, posted the top mile time in Saturday's preliminary heats at 4:08.50. He became the first UD indoor track and field athlete to earn All-East honors since Butch Patrick was seventh in the 60 meters in 2002 and his second place finish was the best for a Fightin' Blue Hen since Wade Coleman came in second in the 35-pound weight throw in 1993.

Also for the UD men, the distance medley relay team of Gregg Cantwell, Steven Jackson, Will Jurkowski and Kyle Schmid finished14th with a time of 10:12.44. In individual events, Jurkowski finished 16th in the 800 meters with a clocking of 1:54.18 and Jared Wasser finished 19th in the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, 6 inches.

In the women's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship meet, also held in Boston, UD junior Rachel Young finished 15th in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

Also for the UD women, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Alexi Capsouras, Paula Green, Daniella Pric, and Laura Heenan finished 26th overall with a time of 3:59.04.
