Delmarva Safety Confab set March 7,8

4:07 p.m., March 2, 2006--The 29th annual Delmarva Safety Seminar and Exposition will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, March 7 and 8, at the Clarion in Ocean City, Md. Sponsored by the Delmarva Safety Association (DSA) in cooperation with University of Delaware Cooperative Extension, trade associations, state agencies, and area businesses, the event addresses workplace safety and occupational health.

Given the increasing national interest in quality safety and health programs, this year's agenda will be one day of seminars, followed by one day of intensive training. An exposition with 35 exhibitors showing new safety equipment technology and safety and health services will be set up both days. Representatives from MOSH and the Delaware Department of Labor will be available to answer questions about OSHA standards and services.

Designed for managers, supervisors and safety professionals, seminar topics on March 7 will include “Understanding and Supervising Hispanic Workers,” “Ladder Safety,” “Multi-Employer Worksites,” “Noise and Dust,” “Department of Transportation and Truck Drivers,” “Fire Extinguishers” and “Hazard Recognition.” An in-Spanish session for Latino workers will cover the value of safety, reducing back injuries and equipment safety. The session will be in Spanish only.

On the following day, 10 workshops will be presented, including “Bio/Chemical Terrorism in the Workplace,” “Shop Safety,” “Fall Prevention,” “Employee Initiatives,” “First Aid Certification,” “Basics of a Safety Program,” “Crane Safety,” “Safety Issues with an Aging Workforce” and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training.

DSA sponsors are offering an anniversary gift to the first 300 registrants, and two vacation packages will be given to lucky registrants at the conclusion of each day's program.
